When Google merged Google Wallet and Android Pay into Google Pay, we thought that was the end of Google’s standalone virtual wallet. However, Android Police noted that the app somehow came back from the dead in the last day or two.
Or so it seems.
According to folks on the Google support forums and Twitter, they received emails that stated that Google Wallet was granted access to their Google accounts. Some changed their passwords and revoked access, only to later get the same email.

But it shows as being from an unverified developer.

Taking a closer look at the notification, it appears that the Google Wallet app in question is from an unverified developer using an unrecognized device from an unknown location. Some even noted that the app gained access to Google Payments and Google Pay Sandbox, which could point to an attempted scam.
The good news is that Google is aware of the issue and is currently investigating it. In the meantime, keep in mind that Google Wallet is a defunct app that’s not available from the Google Play Store.
If you received the aforementioned notification, revoke the app’s access to your Google account. If you want to err on the side of caution, you can also change your password and take any other steps to secure your account.
