OnePlus 7 Pro screen receives A+ rating from DisplayMate, but is it the best?

OnePlus 7 Pro launch event poster

The OnePlus 7 Pro is expected to pack a very slick screen when it launches next month, with company co-founder Pete Lau saying it’ll “redefine fast and smooth.”

Now, the manufacturer has announced that the OnePlus 7 Pro screen received an A+ rating from screen testing company DisplayMate. According to a press release issued by OnePlus, the rating means the device has “one of the best smartphone displays on the market.”

OnePlus claimed that the OnePlus 7 Pro achieved “exceptionally good results” when it came to color accuracy, brightness, contrast accuracy, and pixel density. Furthermore, the company said it received “safety for eyes” certification thanks to improved eye protection functionality. More specifically, it says the functionality now lets users adjust temperature and brightness.

We don’t know if the OnePlus 7 Pro beat the Galaxy S10 family to be crowned the best smartphone display around, but OnePlus claims the screen is “best-in-class” in the press release. Nevertheless, the rating certainly suggests that the company is making good on its display claims.

Editor’s Pick

OnePlus says DisplayMate will release a detailed assessment when the phone launches on May 14. So we’ll likely have to wait until then to find out if it has indeed bested Samsung’s flagships.

DisplayMate and OnePlus didn’t reveal any display details, but a recent leak says we can expect a 1440p screen with a 90Hz refresh rate. If confirmed, this would mean a massive upgrade over last year’s OnePlus 6T, which offered a full HD+ display with a 60Hz refresh rate.

We’ve contacted OnePlus’s PR representatives to find out more about the DisplayMate verdict, and will update the article when/if they respond to us.
