Detective Pikachu crossover coming to Pokémon Go tomorrow

Are you excited about Pokémon: Detective Pikachu landing in your local theatre? If not, Niantic is ready to get you pumped by introducing some new crossover features into Pokémon Go.

Starting tomorrow, May 7, at 1:00 PM PT (4:00 PM ET), you’ll be able to see a few new changes within Pokémon Go that tie-in to the new film.

The biggest addition to the game will be the appearance of Detective Pikachu himself, complete with his little Sherlock Holmes-esque hat. According to Niantic, Detective Pikachu will photobomb you and you’ll also have the chance to catch him for your very own.

Additionally, select other Pokémon who appear in the film — such as Charizard, Charmander, Jigglypuff, and more — will appear more often in the wild as well as in raids.

Here are some other things happening within the game starting tomorrow:

  • Double XP for catching Pokémon
  • Specially themed Field Research will be available for a limited time during this event.
  • Themed avatar items will be available in the Style Shop.

These new features have a limited lifespan. The special event will conclude on May 17 at 1:00 PM PT (4:00 PM ET), so be sure to play a lot of Pokémon Go from May 7 through May 17.

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu opens worldwide on Friday.
