Nvidia’s new program helps creatives find the perfect laptop

Nvidia CES 2019

For the past few years, companies like Nvidia, Intel, and Razer have been working together to produce thin and light notebooks with desktop-class performance. Overall, the initiative has been a success. Where you once needed a beefy 10-pound laptop to edit video proficiently, you can now do so on a thin and light machine that is just as portable as it is powerful.

Today, Nvidia is attempting to make it even easier for creatives to find laptops that are made for their line of work with the all-new Nvidia RTX Studio program.

The new program sets standards on laptops, ensuring that they can handle the intense load creatives often throw at them. The spec requirements for these machines are as follows:

  • Nvidia RTX 206o or higher, or Nvidia RTX Quadro 5000
  • Intel Core i7 H series CPU or higher
  • 16 GB of RAM or higher
  • 512 GB SSD or higher
  • 1080p or 4k display

So far Nvidia has announced partnerships with top OEMs including Acer, ASUS, Dell, GIGABYTE, HP, MSI, and Razer. Pricing on laptops in the Nvidia RTX Studio program will start at $1,599 and the first devices will start shipping in June.

Alongside the new certification program, Nvidia is announcing new Studio drivers that will be geared specifically towards creative applications. These drivers will accelerate programs like Adobe Premiere, Adobe Lightroom, and Black Magic Davinci Resolve, tapping into the GPU to enhance certain features. The first Studio drivers will start rolling out today, replacing the Creator Ready drivers Nvidia had previously offered.
