The best phones with a headphone jack (July 2019)

Trends are made for bucking, and no trend needs to disappear faster than the removal of the headphone jack. There are so many headlines these days about phones losing their 3.5 mm jacks, courtesy of Apple. Here’s some good news though: although the list isn’t as big as it used to be, there are still a lot of great Android phones with headphone jacks out there.

Let’s take a look at some of the best phones with a headphone jack you can get in 2019.

1. Google Pixel 3a and 3a XL

After the disappointment of some fans when the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL arrived on the market without a headphone jack, Google has rectified its mistake with its latest budget duo. The Pixel 3a and 3a XL are among the best current smartphones and both have a headphone jack to boot! But that isn’t their only advantage. The A series phones sport some impressive features despite their low prices.

Just like their flagship counterparts, the camera performance is spectacular. Both Pixel 3a handsets feature the amazing Night Sight mode, as well as native Google Lens integration. The rear and front lenses of both smartphones are the same, sporting 12.2MP and 8MP respectively. The spec department is where they fall a bit short, with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Nevertheless, their day to day performance is still excellent and more than enough for the average user. The 3,700mAh battery of the Pixel 3a XL is also quite impressive.

2. Samsung Galaxy S10 series

The Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, and S10e all have a headphone jack on board. They also feature stereo speakers tuned by AKG, sport an IP68 rating, and are powered by the Snapdragon 855 or Exynos 9820 chipset — depending on the region.

The Plus model is the best of the three Galaxy S10 phones, offering the largest screen and battery as well as two front-facing cameras. It also comes with as much as 12GB of RAM. The majority of other specs are the same as those of the regular Galaxy S10. You get a triple-camera setup on the back, an in-display fingerprint scanner, and wireless charging, among other things.

The Galaxy S10e is the cheapest phone in the series, which means it offers a little less than the other two models. It has two rear cameras instead of three and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. 3. Huawei P30

This isn’t the best phone from Huawei’s P30 series — that title goes to the P30 Pro — but it does come with a headphone jack, which you won’t find on the Pro model. The P30 is powered by the latest Kirin 980 chipset and features a 6.1-inch display. It sports an in-display fingeprint scanner and supports expandable storage via Huawei’s proprietary Nano Memory card.

You’ll find three cameras at the back and a single shooter up front. The phone is IP53 rated, which means it’s splash-proof, and has a gorgeous bezel-less design with a small notch on top of the display. The battery comes in at 3,650mAh and does not support wireless charging. Other specs and features include a 32MP selfie camera and Android 9.0 Pie with the latest EMUI 9.1 skin on top.

The Huawei P30 is available in many regions across the globe including Europe. Unfortunately, the phone was not released in the U.S., although you can get the international version on Amazon.

4. LG G8 ThinQ

The G8 ThinQ is not only among the best phones with a headphone jack, it’s also one of the best phones for music lovers. That’s because it features a 32-bit HiFi Quad DAC, which provides higher quality sound, less distortion, less noise, and better dynamic range. The device also sports a DTS:X 3D Sound System, which is meant to improve the experience when watching movies.

In terms of specs and features, the G8 ThinQ is right up there with the best of them. It’s powered by the Snapdragon 855 chipset, has 6GB of RAM, and is IP68 rated for protection against water and dust. The device also features a 6.1-inch Quad HD+ display with a notch, supports expandable storage, and has a dual-camera setup at the back with a standard and wide-angle lens combo.

What makes the LG G8 unique is a feature called Air Motion, which allows you to control the device without touching the screen. With simple hand gestures, you can take a screenshot, open media apps, control the volume, and more. However, the feature is quite slow and unreliable, so you probably won’t use it as often as you think.

5. Redmi K20 Pro

The flagship killer moniker has been thrown around for many devices in the past, but few have deserved it as much as the Redmi K20 Pro. This Xiaomi device, also known as the Xiaomi Mi 9T in Europe, is the latest in a long line of affordable devices with impressive specs. Both the standard K20 and K20 Pro sport 6.39-inch AMOLED display, 6 or 8GB of RAM and either 64, 128 or 256GB of storage. Under the hood of the Pro version you can also find the latest SoC — the Snapdragon 855. And of course, a headphone jack is still present!

But the Xiaomi phone wows in other departments too. The Redmi K20 Pro has a triple rear camera setup with ultra-wide and telephoto sensors, as well as a 20MP pop-up selfie camera. All of that for 30,999 rupees (for 8GB/256GB version) or around $450! Unfortunately, if you are in the U.S. you can currently only purchase the international version. But wherever you buy the Redmi K20 Pro, it will be worth it even more than usual. Xiaomi now claims that both K20 devices will not have ad-supported monetization.

6. Samsung Galaxy Note 9

Samsung doesn’t like to follow the crowd. Not only does the Note 9 feature a headphone jack — which is located at the bottom of the phone — it also doesn’t have a notch. The device sports stereo speakers tuned by AKG, which is great for when you’re watching YouTube videos or listening to music without headphones.

The Galaxy Note 9 comes with high-end specs. It has a 6.4-inch Quad HD+ display, is powered by the Snapdragon 845 or Exynos 9810 chipset, and comes with up to 8GB of RAM. There’s up to 512GB of storage available with the option of expanding it for an additional 512GB via a microSD card. Other specs and features include a dual-camera setup, an IP68 rating, and a massive 4,000mAh battery.

The phone also comes with the S Pen, which is a signature feature of the Note series. The entry-level version of the flagship launched with a price tag of $1,000 back in August 2018, but it can now be yours for quite a bit less — check out pricing via the button below.

7. Asus Zenfone 6

If you are looking for an affordable flagship that still sports a headphone jack, you can’t go wrong with the Asus Zenfone 6. This smartphone boasts some of the best specs in its price range. It’s equipped with the latest Snapdragon 855, along with 6 or 12GB of RAM and 64 or 265 GB of storage. But what makes it truly a standout is its camera. While most manufacturers opted for pop ups or punch-hole designs, the camera of the Asus Zenfone 6 can physically flip.

It functions both as the front and back camera and can rotate to take full panoramas without you moving an inch. And it’s not just a gimmick! The 48MP main sensor combined with the 13MP wide-angle one capture high quality photos with great dynamic range. You don’t have to worry about draining your battery by playing with the camera either, since the Zenfone 6 sports a massive 5,000mAh battery. The only thing that might bother some is its LCD display, which can be a bit disappointing if you’re coming from an OLED, but it’s a small price to pay for such an excellent device.

8. Asus ROG Phone

The Asus ROG Phone is all about gaming. You can figure that out just by looking at the device due to its eye-catching design that stands out from the crowd. In addition to a headphone jack, it also sports two front-facing speakers and plenty of power thanks to the Snapdragon 845 chipset and 8GB of RAM.

There are a lot of accessories available for the device that takes the gaming experience to the next level, including a TwinView handheld dock with a secondary display and 6,000mAh battery. There’s also a performance mode on board — called X Mode — that raises the minimum clock speed and restricts tasks to the four fastest cores.

The Asus ROG Phone features a 6-inch display and packs a 4,000mAh battery. You can get it with either 128 or 512GB of non-expandable storage. It was the best gaming phone on the market, but it seems it will be dethroned by its successor, the Asus ROG Phone 2 (which also has a headphone jack).

9. Nubia Red Magic 3

If you are a gamer who values sound as much as graphics, the Nubia Red Magic 3 might be just the right phone for you. It is a gaming device first and foremost, but it sports both a headphone jack and dual front-facing speakers. Considering how rare they are in today’s market, they are a huge point in the device’s favor.

Of course, the Nubia Red Magic 3 also has a great spec sheet. It comes with either 8 or 12GB of RAM, 128/256GB of storage and the latest Snapdragon 855. But what makes it so great for gaming? No doubt, its AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate coupled with active liquid-cooling. The massive 5,000mAh battery also allows you to play for hours on the go. The only downside is that the Nubia Red Magic 3 is not a powerhouse in the camera department. It has a single 48MP rear camera and a 16MP selfie shooter. If that doesn’t bother you, however, the Red Magic 3 offers one of the best value propositions on the market — prices start below $500.

10. Pocophone F1

If you’re looking for a smartphone with high-end specs, a headphone jack, and an affordable price tag, the Pocophone F1 might be for you. It’s powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset, has up to 8GB of RAM, and sports a 6.18-inch Full HD+ display. It also has a massive 4,000mAh battery.

In Europe, the phone is available in two configurations. You can get it with 6GB of RAM and either 64GB or 128GB of storage. Unfortunately, the Pocophone F1 was not officially released in the U.S., although the international model is available on Amazon.

The low price tag, which you can check via the button below, means Xiaomi had to cut some corners. The device feels a bit cheap due to its polycarbonate back. It also doesn’t have an IP rating, wireless charging, or NFC. Additionally, the dual-camera setup on the back can’t compare to the ones found on more expensive smartphones like the Galaxy S10 Plus.
