Xiaomi announced the Mi Note 10 today, but there was another phone unveiled at the launch event in Madrid, Spain, that’s potentially even more exciting for budget phone fans — the Redmi Note 8T.

The latest entry in the hugely popular Redmi Note series from the Xiaomi sub-brand is essentially a rebranded Redmi Note 8 for the European market. That makes it an exciting prospect already, as the vanilla model that recently hit India is a pretty great mid-range phone.

We’re not sure exactly what the “T” represents, but the Note 8T does add NFC support into the mix which was notably missing from the Note 8. Want to make a contactless payment with your phone? With the Note 8T, you can!

Elsewhere, the Note 8T is essentially identical to its T-less sibling. Its biggest selling point is its quad camera which is headlined by a 48MP primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture. This is joined by an 8MP ultra wide-angle camera with a 120 degree field-of-view, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. There’s also a 13MP selfie shooter which has a panorama feature.

The Note 8T’s display is a 6.3-inch IPS LCD panel that outputs at Full HD+, is covered by Gorilla Glass 5, and features a small waterdrop notch at the top. The glass-and-metal sandwich build is protected against liquid splashes by a nano-coating, though there’s no IP rating.

Under the hood, the Redmi Note 8T boasts a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC, up to 4GB RAM and 128GB storage (expandable), and a 4,000mAh battery. The latter supports 18W USB-C fast charging via a bundled charger.

The Redmi Note 8T launches in select European markets from later this month. In the UK, buyers will be able to pick up the Redmi Note 8T (4GB RAM/64GB ROM) through carrier Three UK for £169.99 starting from November 22. This version comes in Starscape Blue, but it will also come in Moonshadow Grey and Moonlight White.
