The Asus ROG Phone 2 was already a spec beast, but the company upped the ante earlier this year by revealing the Asus ROG Phone 2: Ultimate Edition. The device is essentially the same as the standard edition (now branded as the Elite Edition), but with some improved specs.
The Ultimate Edition has been out in Europe and other parts of the world for a while now, but today, the device is finally available in the United States.
So what do you get with the Asus ROG Phone 2: Ultimate Edition? As we mentioned, the device looks very much the same as the vanilla variant, but it does feature a new coat of paint: matte black paint, to be precise. Gone is the shiny gloss of the regular edition and in its place is the dull beauty of matte.
Inside, though, is where the real upgrades are. The internal storage capacity gets doubled from 512GB (which, let’s be honest, is already a lot) to a whopping 1TB. There’s no microSD slot on the phone, but if 1TB of space isn’t enough for you, then that’s a bigger problem, we think.

Elsewhere, the Asus ROG Phone 2: Ultimate Edition features enhanced mobile data speeds which can (theoretically) reach 2Gbps using Cat 20 LTE. However, good luck with finding the very favorable conditions you would need to see those speeds.
Speaking of which, the ROG Phone 2 is ideally matched just for AT&T here in the United States. The device doesn’t support CDMA networks, so Verizon and Sprint are out, and it doesn’t support Band 71, so you won’t see high data speeds on T-Mobile. It will still work on T-Mobile, though.
Other than these upgrades, the Asus ROG Phone 2: Ultimate Edition is identical to the Elite Edition. That includes 12GB of RAM, a 6,000mAh battery, dual rear cameras, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus, two USB-C ports, Android 9 Pie, and a headphone jack.
The Asus ROG Phone 2: Ultimate Edition will cost you $1,100, which is considerably more expensive than the Elite Edition, which costs $900. Click the buttons below to grab yours in either configuration.
