Samsung Galaxy Chromebook has 4K screen, stylus, and comes in hot red colorway

In late 2019, Samsung launched a Windows laptop called the Samsung Galaxy Book Ion. The ultrathin, high-end laptop comes with an S Pen and a pretty navy blue colorway. Now, at CES 2020, the company announced a similar device: the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook.

As the name suggests, this laptop is a Chrome OS-based machine. It isn’t the first Chromebook from Samsung but does represent a few firsts for the brand: the Galaxy Chromebook is the thinnest Samsung Chrome OS laptop ever, the first with a built-in stylus, the first from Samsung with a 4K resolution, and the first to come in red.

If the red colorway — officially titled Fiesta Red — is too bold for you, there’s a more subtle colorway called Mercury Gray. But this red is something else entirely and these pictures barely do it justice.

Aside from the red colorway, the display on the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook is the star of the show. The AMOLED panel has a 4K resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio. It also uses a system called Ambient EQ that automatically adjusts brightness and color temperature levels based on the lighting around you. If this sounds familiar it’s because this is presumably the same system that debuted on the Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, although Samsung didn’t completely confirm that when it showed us the laptop.

As you may have already guessed, a Chromebook this pretty with a 4K display and high-end features isn’t going to be cheap. The Samsung Galaxy Chromebook will debut in March this year for $999 in the United States.
