Hands-on: The new Amazfit Bip S has 40-day battery life, 5ATM rating, costs $70

At CES 2020, Huami announced a sequel to its uber-popular Amazfit Bip smartwatch. The Amazfit Bip S is an improvement in a few ways over the original inexpensive watch.

This time around, the Amazfit Bip S features a 5ATM water resistance rating, up from the Bip’s IP68 rating. Huami also increased the battery life to 40 days, and managed to make the watch super light at just 31 grams.

The Amazfit Bip S has a transflective color display, similar to what Garmin includes in its GPS running watches. This means the more sunlight is shining on the watch, the brighter and clearer the screen is. The display measures 1.28 inches and has a decent 176 x 176 resolution for its relatively small size.

The GPS is getting an upgrade, too. Inside the smartwatch is a Sony 28nm low-power GPS chip that allows for GPS+GLONASS dual-mode positioning and improved Satellite searching. With the GPS active, the Amazfit Bip S can last 20 hours on a charge.

Elsewhere, the Amazfit Bip S comes with Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, ~2.5-hour charging time, and a 20mm strap width.

The Amazfit Bip S will go on sale for $69.90 — $30 cheaper than its predecessor.
