Leaked iPhone SE 2 renders reveal an outdated design, still no headphone jack

Thanks to respectable leaker @OnLeaks and the folks over at iGeeks Media, we just got our first look at the potential upcoming iPhone SE 2. The budget device — which could also be named the iPhone 9 — looks reminiscent of Apple devices from 2017.

The metal and glass chassis should be nigh identical to the iPhone 8, save for its increased thickness to accommodate a bigger battery. That means the device’s dimensions should measure in at about 138.5 x 67.4 x 7.8mm. The iPhone SE 2 is also expected to sport a frosted glass back akin to the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max instead of a glossy one.

The front of the device renders reveal a Touch ID enabled home button and a 4.7-inch LCD display with some sizable top and bottom bezels. The back renders highlight a single camera bump and a centered Apple logo.

Looking around the device, we can see the standard power and volume button layout with the iconic silent toggle switch. We also see the lighting charging port, but sadly, the device doesn’t look like it will come with a headphone jack.

Though Google removed the headphone jack from its standard Pixel line a while ago, the budget-friendly Pixel 3a series managed to maintain it. It would have been nice to see Apple follow suit here.

Unfortunately, all of this means this iPhone SE 2 will look a little outdated compared to Apple’s latest devices. On the bright side, the device should feature solid battery life and Apple’s next-gen A13 Bionic processor, though these renders can’t verify that information.

From what we know about the previous iPhone SE, we think the iPhone SE 2 will be a hard sell compared to some budget Android phones on the market. But, for the iPhone fans out there looking to save a few bucks, the SE 2 should be fine.
