Amazfit has finally branched out from smartwatches and fitness bands into true wireless earbuds. At CES 2020, Huami, the company that makes Amazfit wearables, announced two new cord-cutting earbuds; one for sports wear and the other to help you sleep. Let’s break down those announcements for you.
First up are the Amazfit PowerBuds. These true wireless earbuds can track your workouts and monitor your heart-rate.
They weigh 7 grams apiece, which is slightly more than the AirPods Pro. However, Amazfit claims they have an 8-hour battery life, which is double the 4.5-hours of usage you get out of Apple’s latest AirPods.
The battery on the Amazfit PowerBuds can be extended to 24 hours with the charging case.
For added comfort, the buds come with removable magnetic sports ear hooks. These help keep the buds in place during workout sessions. The PoweBuds also feature a Thru Mode which lets in ambient sound when you want it.
They offer IP55 water and dust resistance and feature touch controls on the outside.
Their price is their most attractive feature. The PowerBuds cost just $99 and are cheaper than most other true wireless earbuds such as the AirPods Pro, Sony WF-1000XM3, Huawei Freebuds 3, and more. However, it all comes down to sound quality and usability, which we will only be able to test once we get the PowerBuds in for review.
They will be made available for sale starting February 2020.
Unlike the PowerBuds, the Amazfit ZenBuds are not meant for active wear. Instead, they are designed to fit snugly into ears to insulate from outdoor noises while sleeping.
They come with Knowles Balanced Armature drivers, also found on the OnePlus Bullets Wireless 2, for crisp and clear sound reproduction.
The ZenBuds generate soothing sounds which automatically turn off once you are asleep. They also gather data on heart rate, body position and movement, providing a comprehensive analysis of your sleep patterns.
Once you’re ready to wake up, the earbuds will ring a gentle alarm that increases gradually and doesn’t disturb anyone around you.
Amazfit ZenBuds will be available in 2020, but the company hasn’t announced a specific price or launch timeframe just yet.
In other news, Amazfit also launched the T-Rex smartwatch at CES 2020. You can read our hands-on with the device here.
