Yamaha – known around the globe as a provider of top-quality solutions for the sound industry has decided to dip its toe into the gaming industry. They have decided to release an audio mixer for streaming and a pretty nice headphone that you can get with your mixer. Yamaha is known for its lineup of world-standard mixing consoles, signal processors, power amplifiers, and an extensive range of speakers suitable for everything from live sound to commercial installations.
Their new product – ZG01 Game Streaming Audio Mixer comes with a lot of useful functionalities and in a compact form factor. With this product, you’ll be able to use features such as, distinguishing in-game audio from the chat audio, creating a virtual 3D space for hearing sound from any direction that you want, and the ability to tune in-game audio by separating different audio cues.
Now let us elaborate on some of those features in greater detail. First off Yamaha’s Audio Mixer has “ViReal™ technologies for headphones” which lets some compatible headphones to have a 3D audio effect. It seems pretty similar to what Razer has been doing with their 7.1 spatial virtual audio setup. Razer’s headphones have that effect in them once activated. The spatial audio feature can come in pretty handy in one of the most wishlisted games on steam.
They also have a feature called the Focus Mode, and this one seems much more interesting. Apparently, it can suppress your character’s voice in the game and let you focus on enemy footsteps, which for obvious reasons can help you with your in-game progression. The settings can be tuned and some sounds can be increased while others will be decreased.
One more interesting feature is the Sharing of your Surround Sound Experience with your listeners. This means that even if your listeners are not ZG users, as long as they have stereo headphones, they’ll be able to listen in on your interactive audio experience. The ZG01 Game Streaming Audio Mixer also comes with the standard inclusion of preset voice effect buttons as well as preset game sound buttons.
The overall design of the ZG01 seems well thought out and straightforward. It’s compact, sleek, the physical controls are intuitive and the whole thing will blend in well with the rest of your setup, which is good in my opinion. As it is listed on Yamaha’s official website, the recommended retail price of the ZG01 Game Streaming Audio Mixer is going to be £335.
Now, if you’re also looking for a gaming headset that will be compatible with this audio mixer for streaming, Yamaha got you covered there as well. Their latest YH-G01 headset was designed to be compatible with their audio mixer and provide you with all of its benefits. You can even get the ZG01 Pack, which includes both the headset and the audio mixer. Alternatively, if you don’t want their gaming headset you can check out our tech reviews section, to find out about other good audio products.
Their newest headset doesn’t shine with its design, it’s a regular-looking headset with a slightly better microphone, as they claim. It doesn’t have any unique functionalities like the ZG01 Game Streaming Audio Mixer. However knowing Yamaha, we can be sure that this headset will be a studio-quality product. I think it’s a safe bet to think that Yamaha can deliver on a good-sounding headset for sure. According to Yamaha’s official website, the recommended retail price of the YH-G01 headset is going to be £190.
