Nokia 1 Plus goes on sale today in the UK

Nokia 1 Plus

HMD Global announced today that the Nokia 1 Plus is now available in the U.K. The phone costs just under 90 pounds and is available through Carphone Warehouse, with EE, Vodafone, O2, Amazon, Argos, John Lewis, AO.com, and Mobilephonesdirect.co.uk to follow.

Announced during MWC 2019, the Nokia 1 Plus features a 5.45-inch IPS display with 960 x 480 resolution, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 5MP selfie camera, the quad-core MediaTek MT6739 processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 2,500mAh battery. Given the relatively weak innards, it’s good to see the phone run Android Go (based on Android Pie) with Android Go apps out of the box.

Editor’s Pick

Continuing the low-cost theme, the Nokia 1 Plus features Micro-USB instead of USB-C. At least you’ll find a 3.5mm headphone jack on the top of the phone. Also, the back panel is a textured polycarbonate finish that comes in three colors — black, red, and blue. The display was a fingerprint magnet during our hands-on time, but the rough texture of the shell and overall compact size made the Nokia 1 Plus easy to hold.

You won’t find a fingerprint sensor, wireless charging, or other fancy features. Then again, the Nokia 1 Plus only costs 90 pounds — don’t expect the world from this phone.

We’ll provide purchase links as soon as they’re available. In the meantime, let us know in the comments if the Nokia 1 Plus looks like a good second phone or a phone for a relative.
